A Product Manager’s Guide to Building Trust with Skeptical Stakeholders

Pick a cadence and never silently break it. If you send a Friday update, send it every Friday, even the week there’s nothing exciting to say. “No major changes this week, here’s what’s in flight” is itself information. Silence is not.
Close every open loop you create. If you say “I’ll follow up by Tuesday,” follow up by Tuesday — even if the follow-up is “still waiting on legal, will chase again tomorrow.” An open loop left dangling is a tiny withdrawal from the trust account every single time.
Say no in writing, with a reason. Skeptical stakeholders don’t actually need you to say yes to everything. They need to know why the answer is no. “Not in scope for this quarter because it would push the payments work past the compliance deadline” is a sentence that builds more trust than a reluctant yes ever could.
